Doing research with Tom from Isaan-Live for a road trip mainly in Sakon Nakhon, I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to gather as much information about the Free Thai Movement, mainly in northeastern Thailand. I learned quite a bit about Thailand during World War II and my research proved more frustrating than fulfilling as there is very little online about the Free Thai Movement during World War II. Free Thai Movement Logo I already knew that Japan invaded Thailand on 8 December 1941 (some say it was actually the 7th a few hours before Pearl Harbor was attacked) and I knew that Thailand capitulated to the superior Japanese force the next day. What I didn’t know was the politics behind Thailand so readily agreeing to Japan’s demands to have access to Thailand in order to fight in Burma and Malaya (Malaysia). The main reasons for giving up so easily was to get back land lost during the Franco- Thai war (since Germany occupied France) and to hopefully have an ally if Japan and Germany defeated the allies
